About Emily

I began practicing yoga in 2000 and am certified with 230 hours of teacher training from the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville NC. I recently completed an additional 200 hour teacher training through the highly evolved and multidimensional system of Universal Yoga.  I will complete my 500 hour advanced training in this system in fall of 2012.  I am a Yin and Restorative Yoga certified teacher as well. My teaching style has been strongly influenced by the Universal System of yoga which focuses on development of all layers of physical, spiritual, and energetic bodies called Mayokoshas. I attend yoga workshops regularly to find continuous inspiration for my classes and to nurture my personal study of yoga. In addition I am a practicing holistic nutritionist and wellness coach, offering programs in weight loss and cellular cleansing.

Why do yoga?

The short answer is that yoga makes you feel better. Practicing the postures, breathing exercises and meditation makes you healthier in body, mind and spirit. Yoga lets you tune in, chill out, shape up -- all at the same time.

For many people, that's enough of an answer. But there's more if you're interested.

For starters, yoga is good for what ails you. Specifically, research shows that yoga helps manage or control anxiety, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, depression, , epilepsy, headaches, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, stress and other conditions and diseases.

What's more, yoga:

  • Improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina
  • Reduces stress and tension
  • Boosts self esteem
  • Improves concentration and creativity
  • Lowers fat
  • Improves circulation
  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Creates sense of well being and calm.
